From Manila to Mesa
I don’t very often look back. My mantra is typically, “onward and upward, my friends.”
However, in order to move forward, I believe it’s important to understand your past in order to understand what lies ahead.
I recently went back to my childhood neighborhood in Mesa, Arizona. It brought back a lot of happy memories, but also reminded me why I grew up feeling disconnected from my heritage.
Thinking about where my family came from in the Philippines and tying that to my experience growing up in the U.S., showed me WHY my new YouTube series “FILIPINA. AMERICAN. CREATIVE." is so important to me.
Each episode is my way of offering what I had always wished I had when I was growing up. A person to show me how amazing the Philippines and its people are, we we have accomplished in this world, and what we have to contribute today as we move boldly into our future.
With every discovery, I am connecting to something bigger than myself. And sharing that experience with you.
