My Mom’s Childhood Home
My mom has told me many stories about her childhood in Tondo, Manila. Mostly they’re filled with danger.
Tondo is considered to be one of the most violent and crime ridden cities in the Philippines. My mother spent most of her childhood there, attending high school, eating toyo (fried fish), and avoiding criminals.
So when I went back to the Philippines earlier this year, at the top of my “must see” list was visiting her old neighborhood.
Luckily, my friends encouraged me to Zoom with her while I was there and helped me capture this beautiful moment.
This is the moment she saw Tondo again in over 25 years!
