My Filipino Parents In NYC

People ask me all the time why I love New York City. I’ll tell you why…
Because it inspires me. Like it inspired today’s YouTube episode.
Little did I know that the City’s inspiration would suddenly give me the idea to interview my parents about their experiences as new immigrants in NYC.
My mom and dad moved to the United States from the Philippines in 1969. They ventured to New York a little over one year later.
They told me about where they lived in Midtown Manhattan, their first jobs on Wall Street and Broadway, and their micro-community of Filipino family and friends.

And they shared details about when they got ROBBED the first week they landed in the Big Apple.
As I write these words, I have tears in my eyes.

Because of my parent’s courageous decision to leave their home in the Philippines and survive one of the craziest cities on the planet, I get to tell you this story today.

I am so grateful to them. They are (and always have been) my biggest heroes and my greatest inspiration.
