Imelda Marcos

Imelda Marcos is probably the most famous woman in modern Philippine history.

Her past (and even her present) behavior is considered extremely controversial. Yet, to this day, there are still many people in the Philippines who revere her like a saint.

I was given the unique opportunity to meet Imelda when I was invited to sing in the Philippines back in 2008.

My time with her was unexpected, thrilling and simply unforgettable.

Next to my mother, she’s one of the most fascinating (and confusing) people I’ve ever known.

As we continue to celebrate (Filipina) Women’s History Month, I believe it is important not to cancel people because their actions may cause us to feel uncomfortable.

Instead, I want you to “meet” Imelda, learn a little about her story and hear about my experiences with her that I’ve rarely told anyone.

Like the time I visited her home, went to dinner with her, heard her sing, and then lied to her face.
